From 2 to 16 participants. If the number is not a power of 2 (e.g. 6 or 12), the top-seeded participants automatically get a bye in the first round.
Put the strongest participant at the top. The generator seeds them using the standard bracket seeding, so the strongest only meet late in the draw.
A bye means a participant skips the first round and advances automatically, because the number of participants is not an exact power of 2.
